Sex Drugs and Rock & roll. This saying is synonymous with music. The life of excess, grunge and glam, the highs and lows of our stars in the headlines of tabloids. Music reminds us that we are human, it lifts us up and brings us crashing down...I only see one thing every time I close my eyes envisioning what music means to me. Gold, the color of money, of excess, of riches, and black the color of darkness. And glitter. LOTS of glitter.

So while the wrap was inspired by the general feel of music and the human condition that music shines a light on, I decided to name the wrap after a song by Metric. The song is about finding an escape from reality, an escape from heartbreak, "Found an entrance to escape into the dark/

Got false lights for the sun/

It's an artificial nocturne/

It's an outsider's escape for a broken heart....I'll make

All that I believe/

I set myself free/

So take all the time you need/

And let yourself be"

When I started writing this blurb I was at 600 words, and had to somehow cut it down to 180! I needed to capture everything that I pictured when I was designing this wrap. In the end, I figured the colors and tone of the wrap would speak for itself, and I am quite happy with the response that Artificial Nocturne got.

Every competition I push myself, this year was no different. This was my first time painting silk, and this was my first time doing a complicated treadling (something I found really wasn't all that bad!)

This was also my first time using my newly milled Sparkle silk, which can be felt in hand but not once wrapped, and is SO sparkly!

The tails are fringed unevenly, with a faux grad on the shorter fringe side. I was going for a rock n roll feel, chaotic yet glamorous.:

Two wraps, one in gold sparkle silk, and one in rose gold rose fiber.  one cowl, and a 60” conversion piece.
